Radon - What is it?

Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas that  you cannot see, smell, or taste.  When you breath air containing radon, you increase your risk of getting lung cancer. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. You cannot predict radon levels.  Even homes next to each other can have different indoor radon levels. Testing is the only way to find out what your home's radon level is.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Surgeon General recommend testing homes below the third floor for radon. If you find that you have high radon levels, there are ways to fix a radon problem.  Even very high levels can be reduced to acceptable levels.

If you are selling a home, EPA recommends you test your home before putting it on the market  and, if necessary, reduce your radon levels.  Save the test results and all information you have about steps that were taken to fix any problems.

If you are buying a Home, EPA recommends you have the house tested. Then you will know what the indoor radon level is when you consider buying the home.  If the home has a radon-reduction system, ask for any information about the system.

Radon Testing

OC Home Inspections uses electronic continuous electron ion monitors to complete all radon tests. These monitors will be placed inside the home for a minimum of 48 hours in order to gather enough information for reliable results. Once we have retrieved the testing unit, we will usually have the lab results within 24 hours. We will then contact you to explain the findings and help you to make an informed decision.

We are an affiliate with Radalink Inc., for all of our radon testing needs. Radalink has been, and will continue to be, the industry leader with regards to testing equipment and test result reporting.
